We Support PowerBase!

Why?

PowerBase saves time

PowerBase is a database platform designed specifically for community organizing. It’s being developed in collaboration with key organizing groups, so PowerBase tracks what we want to track. We’ll be able to access it in the office and on the road. And, it’ll be easy to share information both within our organization and with our organizational partners and allies – we’ll all be using the same system.

PowerBase saves money

PowerBase is designed to provide community organizers with a uniform database, as well as a system of on-call technical support and training provided by people who understand the field of organizing. We’ll no longer be dependent on service providers more interested in profits than assistance, or who can’t provide the services we need when we need them. We’ll be increasing our efficiency and proficiency, and that translates into big resource savings – both human and financial.

As PowerBase becomes the database standard for community organizing it will allow us to exercise market power with vendors of applications we want to integrate with our database. We’ll be able to negotiate with vendors as a unified group rather than as individual organizations. List enhancement projects become simple as coalitions gain the ability to quickly and easily aggregate lists.  Networks gain the ability to do national online campaigns at scale, and with savings that make previously unimaginable work attainable.

The Progressive Technology Project is the right group at the right time to oversee this project

We trust the Progressive Technology Project (PTP), and think they’re the right organization to spearhead the development of PowerBase. PTP has a decade of experience and knowledge working closely with community organizers. They know what we need in a database, and we know they’ll work with us to ensure we get what we want. PTP is committed to working with us over time so that we’ll get the on-going training and technical assistance we need to master the full power of PowerBase. This systemic support means our capacity to use Powerbase strategically and to integrate it deeply into all aspects of our organizations will be greatly enhanced.

Community Organizing Needs PowerBase

As a leader in the field of progressive community organizing, I’m signing on to this statement of support for PowerBase. The practice of community organizing is changing.  We need to develop the strategies and infrastructure to sustain our work at scale.  The last few years of growing electoral work, combined with the growing national alignment of movements for change tell us that now is the time to invest in PowerBase.

We support PTP’s PowerBase project! It’s an essential resource for 21st Century community organizing!
